What is a portrait party?

I was first introduced to portrait parties a few years ago when I went along with a friend who had been invited to take her daughters to one. Now that I’m a mom I can appreciate what a fantastic idea they are! Portrait parties bring together friends and family for affordable professional portraits taken in a relaxed, natural environment. They’re great for those on a budget but still want professional photos taken of their children or themselves, need updated photos of their kiddos, or have always wanted to try a “themed” session. They’re perfect for playgroups, teams, and neighbors!

How does it work?

A portrait party by Love, Joleen Photography is hosted by one person who provides the location, coordinates the guest list, and schedules the sessions in consecutive 15 minute intervals*. An ideal location would be somewhere well lit by natural light. This could be in or around your home, a local park or field. If you live in the city then possibly an urban backdrop. Consider a theme (upcoming holiday, superhero, princess, tea or garden party, etc.). “Mommy and Me” themed portrait parties are perfect for Mother’s or Father’s Day gifts!

I will arrive 30 minutes to hour before the event to set up the session area and equipment. It is best for the session area to be located away from the rest of the party so as to help keep children from being distracted during their session. Guests are not obligated to stay after their session. Hostesses are encourage to provide drinks and light snacks. 

Specifics

1. Individual guest sessions are $50 for one child and $10 for each additional child.
2. Each guest is required to pay a $20 non-refundable deposit via Paypal to schedule their time slot and the remaining balance the day of the party.
3. Each individual guest session will last 15 - 20 minutes. *For siblings please allow for 25 minutes total. This time will allow for individual and group shots.
4. Guests will receive 5 professionally processed images within two weeks of the portrait party.

Ready to schedule your portrait party by Love, Joleen Photography? Great! First, make out a potential guest list. We require at least 6 people to participate in the parties with a maximum of 12. Discuss dates with your guests to see which dates will work best for all of you. Think of the best location and decide on a theme if you’re going to have one. Once your date is set you can put together an invitation by email, Facebook or Evite.
