Benjamin's Nursery

Before moving back to Georgia, Ben and I had decided that we would rent an apartment for a couple of years while we were paying off debt so that we could buy a house someday. We decided that while Benjamin was still a baby we should get a spacious one bedroom, so Ben set out and found the perfect one for us. For the most part, I really love our apartment. It has an open floor plan and vaulted ceilings. We have a full indoor washer and dryer which is such a blessing to this mama who always seems to be running the wash. We have a gym that I fully intend to check out one of these days and get to using! The only part I really don't like has nothing at all to do with the apartment itself, but rather, our lack of belongings in it. We have everything we need here and for that I am truly grateful. There is just something to be said about having your own belongings; your own space. I wanted that for Benjamin and am really happy that we're able to give him this. 

There was much debate as to where to set up this space. Mostly with myself, outloud, with Ben seeing both sides of the argument. To set him up in the bedroom or in the living room? In the end we decided to create his own space in the living room. Its come with its own set of challenges which I'll talk about soon when I talk about SLEEP. It's a bit of a work in progress but I'm really happy with how things are looking so far! It's so bright and cheery without being overwhelming. 

When my parents were in town back in February we saw a killer listing for this changing table and mini crib on Craigslist for $80! We had to wait over a week before the seller was ready to sell it (so weird) and then fight [Atlanta] traffic for nearly 3 hours(!) but I think it was worth it. It had very minor wear and tear - some scratches and teethmarks of a formerly teething babe. Nothing we couldn't fix right up with new screws, some sand paper, and a little paint. The crib didn't come with a mattress so we ended up ordering this one. It's a good quality mattress, that will last Benjamin as long as he will fit in the crib. Our baby is in the 90-something percentile in height so I'm really not sure how long that will be but am hoping for at least 18 months. 

My mom purchased him two of these solid organic crib sheets which were actually a teeny bit too small in depth but we're totally making them work! I fell in love with some custom sheets on Etsy but not the sales tag so I'm hoping that now that I have my own sewing machine (thanks to my parents and sister for my birthday!) I can make them myself! You may remember this scallop baby bunting that I made to put around Benjamin's hospital bassinet. I was pleased to find that it's long enough to go around three sides of the crib. Perfect!

Once we do get the rest of our belongings I'll have to rearrange and organize this space again but that's okay. Benjamin has a lot of toys coming and even more books. I am super excited to make him a little reading nook down the road that I've been pinning and planning for over on Pinterest. I also plan to put more artwork and photos on the wall.
